The S.I.R. 9 is the most versatile bike in the Niner stable, fusing the "steel is real" feel of Reynolds tubing with the ability to run the frame as either a geared bike or single speed. The S.I.R. 9 uses the same custom drawn Reynolds 853 tubing as the M.C.R. 9 and combines it with Niner's ultra-light eccentric bottom bracket.

Now built around a 120 millimeter fork, the new SIR 9 got, you guessed it, longer, lower, and slacker. Boost spacing and a refined bottom bracket / chainstay junction shrank the rear.

This being the case, I was a bit doubtful when I first climbed on the Niner SIR 9, a steel hardtail that can run 27.5-plus or 29-inch wheels. The 27.5x 2.80 tires seemed like overkill compared to my super-light 29er race bike, and the thought of riding a bike that wasn't fully suspended had me questioning my sanity. Read Review

Niner has revamped their entire line over the past year or so, and the latest bike to receive a reboot is the SIR 9 hardtail. The SIR has been in Niner's catalog pretty much since the beginning as a classic XC steel hardtail. Then, a few years ago Niner introduced the ROS 9, a steel hardtail with much more aggressive intentions.
